Gene Mantua has been with us since our inception and we've also been with him as his sound evolves. A few years ago his style was scattered, almost like he had way too many ideas and his way to express this was to chop up arrangements and cue sounds in and out as if to force the listener into his own shoes. Reminiscent, even, of childhood memories explored and expressed on 'Moon-Glo All-Skate'.
Now we're seeing Gene take a more focused approach with steady and straightforward drums and arrangements that really don't mess around. 'Is This The Way?' captures the producers signature sound and shines a light on something within him almost celestial and soul-seeking. A longing is felt with digital strings and a relentless kick drum beats on in front of sound FX that resemble quick bursts of suppressed memories. The listener is in almost a nightmarish state, but one that feels melancholic rather than horrific.
The team of remixers we've enlisted in this project took amazing approaches in interpreting the track in their own ways. Woozy, dreamlike, tribal, techno-influenced; This is a remix EP worth exploring!
